Meet your photographer & founder of Mavstar Photography, Ruby Canning.

Raised on her Victorian family farm surrounded by livestock, Mavstar Photography founder Ruby Canning has always been fascinated by the way natural light is used to capture the breathtaking, unique and unequivocal stories of the land. 

Being no stranger to the workings of farm life, Ruby has lived and breathed countless lessons on resilience, resourcefulness, enterprise, custodianship and tenderness thanks to the generations of her family who have dedicated their lives to the agricultural and livestock industries. A passionate and lifelong photographer of the land, Ruby derives the majority of her inspiration from the rich bonds shared between loved ones, their individual stories, and the connection farmers share with their land and livestock - as she describes it - “a love story like no other”.

Based in Dunkeld, Victoria, and travelling Australia-wide as a photographer, Ruby and her family also own and operate Mavstar Simmentals, which was established in 2001 based on genetics from her grandparents’ stud. Annually, Ruby and her family also sell seedstock and show their cattle throughout southern Australia. Her experience as a livestock breeder passionately informs her photographic work: she has unique, thoughtful insights into exactly what kind of images livestock producers need in order to obtain a high-return result in the market that builds connection.
